MARY HAYES - WORK IN PROGRESS
A Spiegeltent is a large travelling tent with wooden sides, mirrors and stained glass. The tents were created as travelling entertainment venues in the nineteenth century. I have visited three and photographed, sketched and researched these tents, which travel around Europe now. My Spiegeltent prints are created using dyes painted onto paper, then printed onto cloth using a 200 degree heat press. There are layered patterns and colours, which merge to create new images. When the watercolours are cut and overlaid, mini landscapes can be seen, and the overlaid colours create new hues.
